Field and Outreach Fellow

Population Connection

- Conduct media monitoring of topics related to sexual and reproductive health and rights.

- Write blog posts and create infographics in support of the Population Connection Action Fund campaigns.

- Track senate candidates to identify crucial advocacy opportunities for our grassroots volunteers.

- Provide general outreach and field support for initiatives in Ohio, New Hampshire and North Carolina. 

- Design Activist Toolkit and event flyers using Piktochart, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.

Communications Associate
Nuclear Age Peace Foundation
February 2016 – Present (3 months), Santa Barbara, California Area
- Analyze foreign affairs in articles for the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation’s newsletter publication, Sunflower.
- Interview and write profiles of Marshall Island citizens victim to negative health effects of international nuclear weapon testing.

Sara Miller McCune Endowed Policy and Communications Intern
Central Coast Alliance United For A Sustainable Economy (CAUSE)
January 2016 – Present (4 months), Central Coast Region, California Area
- Create infographics, policy briefs, and press releases for CAUSE’s 2016 campaign to enact a Farmworker Bill of Rights in the Central Coast of California.
- Conduct research regarding the effects of a minimum wage raise and rising house costs in the Central Coast. 
- Perform administrative tasks to help organize press conferences, board meetings, and community advocacy events.

Peer Mentor
UC Santa Barbara College of Letters and Science

-Mentor students who have been put on academic probation to help them achieve academic success at the UCSB. 
-Meet with mentees and develop a plan to set goals for academic success, considering the mentees' self-assessment and impact of time management, study habits and skills, homework and test taking approaches and other factors. 
-Advise mentees on academic policy, available resources, relevant workshops, campus offices and study groups in collaboration with campus academic advisors.

Revolver Santiago Magazine
March 2015 – July 2015 (5 months), Santiago, Chile
- Researched and wrote articles about Santiago culture, including topics such as music, travel, food, and cinema.
- Interviewed local artists in Spanish and translated to English to include in articles.
-Edited articles of fellow staff writers before published on the website.

Gaucho FYI Peer Facilitator
UC Santa Barbara
September 2014 – November 2014 (3 months), Santa Barbara, California Area
-Participated as a Peer Facilitator in the program Gaucho FYI which has received national attention and recognition.
-Selected from a large pool of student leaders to serve as a representative of UC Santa Barbara while co-facilitating a special training delivered to every incoming first-year and transfer student.
- Educated new students about campus resources in multi-media presentations including group exercises, personal stories, and video.
- Presented information to incoming students at UCSB about alcohol and drug prevention, health and wellness, mental health, and first-year student initiatives.

UCSB Orientation Staff Leader
UC Santa Barbara Orientation Programs
March 2014 – August 2014 (6 months), Santa Barbara, California Area
-Served as a representative of UC Santa Barbara for incoming students and their families.
-Provided new students with academic advising, panel-style question and answer sessions, informational workshops, tours, and other guidance to facilitate a smooth transition to college.
-Worked in a fast-paced environment with little supervision to welcome the unique group of first-year students, transfer students, and family members into the Gaucho community.

Program Coordination Intern
International Rescue Committee
June 2013 – September 2013 (4 months), Sacramento, California Area
​- Created the first ever IRC bike drive that raised 80 bikes in two months.
- Launched a social media campaign to reach out to the local Sacramento community regarding the IRC bike drive and IRC volunteer opportunities.
- Developed customer service and communication skills through administrative tasks, direct work with IRC’s refugees, and volunteer orientations.
- Rewrote and redesigned all IRC volunteer descriptions and duties handouts.
